Abstract

Determining the meaning of the term καρπός in Romans 1:13 provides a better understanding of the purpose of the Epistle to the Romans and the apostle Paul’s intentions for visiting the capital of the Roman Empire. In this article, the interpretative proposal of Keith F. Nickle and Michael A. Kruger, according to which καρπός is a reference to the collect of offerings for Jerusalem, is critically analyzed. The meaning of the term καρπός in the Pauline letters is studied, as well as the indications that Paul provides about the purpose of Romans and the reasons for his trip to this city. Finally, a brief reflection on the implications that Romans 1:13 has on the understanding of the mission of the church is presented.
