Since the Millerite movement, the sanctuary has been a major theological issue and has been so with the rise of the Sabbatarian
Adventists, a group that would become the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Among several Adventist authors who dealt with the heavenly sanctuary, the contribution of Ellen G. White is noteworthy. From her initial visions, it is possible to see the contribution of the sanctuary doctrine to an Adventist soteriology. This article reviews the historical context and major themes of Ellen G. White’s early visions of the sanctuary, seeking to highlight the soteriological concepts that helped shape the unique view of salvation held by early Adventist pioneers.
